Post Fazail-e-Qurbani

After the blessed month of Ramazan, the month of Zilhajj holds immense importance in the Islamic calendar. In the month of Zilhajj, Hajj has been made obligatory on the well off Muslims just like fasting has been made compulsory on Muslims in the month of Ramazan. Like Ramazan is a month of acts of goodness, likewise the good acts of first 10 days of Zilhajj have great reward then the acts of goodness of any other day. Holy Prophet (SAW) said, "there is no other day the acts of goodness of which are more liked by Allah than the ones of these 10 days." (Sahih Bukhari)The actions that should be performed during the ten days of the 1st ashrah (10 days) of Zilhajj, whose importance has been highlighted in ahadith, are as follows and one should make an effort towards them in order to attain reward. Zikr (Remembrance of Allah)

Besides other zikr, the special zikr of this ashrah are the following takbeerat:

F
asting

Fasting on the ninth of Zilhajj is a means of earning immense reward. The holy prophet said in this regard that; "This fast is an atonement of the sins of the past and the coming year."
(Sahih Muslim)
Qurbani(Sacrifice)

The last and the most important act of worship of this ashrah, which is greatly liked by Allah, is sacrifice, which Holy Prophet has instructed us to do willingly.

Importance of Qurbani Though qurbani is not farz yet it is Sunnat-e-Wajibah and is a means of attaining Allah's pleasure. It rectifies one's sins. Allah orders us, "Therefore, turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only)." (Surah Al-Kauther: 2) The command to sacrifice has been in every revealed religion since Hazrat Adam (AS). Allah SWT says in Quran, "For every nation We have ordained religious ceremonies (e.g. slaughtering of the cattle during the three days of stay at Mina during the Hajj) which they must follow". (Surah Al-Hajj: 67) Holy Prophet stayed in Medina for 10 years & sacrificed every year. (Tirmizi) Once Holy Prophet was inquired 'O Prophet of Allah, what is Qurbani (Sacrifice)?' Holy Prophet replied that, 'This is sunnah of your father Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).' (Ahmed & Ibn e Majah) This sunnah has been related beautifully in Quran. Allah SWT says:

And he said: "Verily, I am going to my Lord. He will guide me!" So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy. And, when he (his son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: "O my son! I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offering you in sacrifice to Allah). So look what you think!" He said: "O my father! Do that which you are commanded, Insha' Allah (if Allah Wills), you will find me of As-Saabireen (the patient)." Then, when they had both submitted (to the Will of Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for slaughtering); We called out to him: "O Abraham! You have fulfilled the dream!" Verily thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers). Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (a ram); And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among the later generations. "Salam (peace) be upon Ibrahim (Abraham)!" thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers).
(Surah As-Saffat 99-110) This is the unique example of submission & obedience in Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismail's characters that is so highly honoured by Allah SWT, that Allah has made it to be continued for all times to come. The above ayats mention Hazrat Ibrahim. Allah greatly appreciated Hazrat Ibrahim's obedience, faithfulness, sacrificial nature and full submission. Allah entitled him with 'Mohsin' and 'Khalil ul lah'(a friend of Allah) and made him remembered for all times to come. All muslims, send blessings on Hazrat Ibrahim, along with the Holy Prophet in their namaz five times a day. Allah wants such obedience and faithfulness in all his slaves that whenever Allah's order comes, one follows it without excuse. Muslims world over, in the remembrance of this sunnah take an oath with Allah that 'O Lords of the Worlds! We are your obedient slaves, everything that we have is Yours. We won't stay from slaying our necks, and shedding blood at Your command. The prayer recited at the time of qurbani is also an __expression of this feeling of sacrifice. Hazrat Ibrahim set aside all logical reasons after his dreams and with excellent submission, sacrificed his most beloved thing for Allah. The repetition of the sunnah of qurbani every year in fact is reminder of the love that Allah's slave has for Him. The word Qurbani is from (closeness). That is such an act through which one seeks Allah's pleasure and closeness. Allah SWT says:
Say, "Verily, my Salat (prayer), my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists)."
(Al Ana'am 162) While we are living the sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) if the heart is devoid of such feelings then shedding blood of animals, distributing and eating the meat will all become mere mechanical deeds; devoid of spirit. Allah does not want the blood or meat but He desires the Taqwa and feelings of sacrifice of His slaves, which are inculcated as a result of the qurbani.
It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is peity from you that reaches Him. Thus have We made subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad (SAW)) to the Muhsinun (doers of good).
(Al-Hajj 37)

Gains From Qurbani
Holy Prophet SAW said, 'No act is better for Ibn-e-Adam on 10th Zilhajj than shedding blood. These animals will come on the day of judgement with their horns, hoofs and hides/hair. And before the blood falling on the ground it has status near Allah. You should do this qurbani happily. (Ibn-e-Majah and Tirmizi) The companions asked the Holt Prophet that what would they get from the qurbani? Holy Prophet SAW replied, 'For every hair you will get one naiki'. They asked about wool and he replied, 'For every strand of wool on a ram you will get a naiki'. (Ibn-e-Maja, Ahmed, Hakim)

Problems/Percepts of Qurbani
1.
Qurbani / Sacrifice is wajib on every muslim with the ability to do it. Holy Prophet SWA said, 'Who ever has the ability and strength to sacrifice and does not do it should not come to the Muslim's Eidgah (a place where Eid prayers are offered)'. 2. Holy Prophet SAW said, 'Whoever sighted the moon of Zilhajj and intends to offer sacrifice should not clip/ trim his hair And nails'. This is also valid for those who cannot offer sacrifice. 3. Sacrifice/ qurbani can be offered in any of three days of Ayyam-e-Tashreeq of Zilhajj (10th, 11th, 12th) 4. Goat, sheep etc are sacrificed by an individual. Cows, bulls however, will have seven and camel has ten people sharing the sacrifice. The meat of the animal will be distributed in 7 and 10 equal shares respectively. 5. Holy Prophet (SAW) advised Muslim Ummah to spend eagerly for the purpose because the amount spent is highly valued by Allah. While selecting the animal one should choose healthy, well-bred animals. The slaughter of ill, lame, blind, weak and too young animals will not be valid. Holy Prophet (SAW) said: "Slaughter big and healthy animals, they will be your conveyance over the Pull Sirat (the Bridge of Sirat)" 6. It is obligatory to slaughter animals with the intention of sacrifice. Slaughter without this intention will not suffice-moreover, if the animal is slaughtered before the namaz of Eid then one has to repeat it. Hence giving an equal amount for charity in any good cause will not suffice. 7. If an organization makes an effort for combined sacrifice then giving them money for sacrifice will be all right. Likewise getting the sacrifice done by a relative or friend is correct. 8. One can offer sacrifice on behalf of a relative, for instance a man on behalf of his wife. It can also be offered for the deceased. Holy Prophet (SAW) offered sacrifice of a ram on behalf of the Muslim Ummah. 9. The eating and giving of the meat (of the animal sacrificed) to poor is proved by the Quran. "…eat thereof, and feed the poor who does not ask (men), an dthe beggar who asks (men)." (Surah Al-Hajj: 36) Although making three portions of the meat is preferred-one for the poor, one for self and another for relatives; but if one has a big family then all the meat can be consumed. Likewise if you are well off and so are your relatives then all the meat can be distributed amongst the poor. 10. One should recite takbeer while going to and coming from the eidgah. 11. Holy Prophet (SAW) did not use to eat anything before the namaz of eid and sacrifice. 12. Slaughtering/offering sacrifice in the eidgah is proved by the sunnah. 13. It is more liked to slaughter the animal by self but it is acceptable to ask others to do it. 14. While slaughtering, the animal should be made to face the qibla and the knife should be sharp edged. 15. It is not right to pay the butcher with the sacrificial meat. 16. The hide of the animal can be utilized for any deed of Sadqah Jareah. 17. The masnoon dua of Qurbani is

"Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth Hanifa, (Islamic Monotheism, i.e. worshipping none but Allah alone) and I am not of Al-Mushrikun (the idolaters, polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, pagans, etc.) Verily, my Salat (prayer), my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists). He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. O Allah! This is for Your Pleasure, accept this from me the way You accepted it from Ibrahim, Your friend. In the name of Allah and Allah is Great." If sacrificing for someone else the word should be replaced with arabic and then the name of the arabic person should be said.
