usko taktay bhi nahi thay pehlay
hum bhi khud daar thay kitne pehlay
usko dekha to ye mehsoos hua
hum buhat door thay khud se pehlay
dil nazar aatay hain ab aankhon main
kitne gehre thay chashmay pehlay
khoay rehte hain ab uski dhun main
jisko taktay na thay pehlay pehlay
humko pehchaan liya karte thay
ye tere sheher k raste pehlay
ab ujaalon main bhattak jaatay hain
rah sujhaatay thay andhere pehlay
ab na alfaaz na ehsaas na yaad
itne muflis na huay thay pehlay
rang kay jaal main aatay na kabhi
paas se dekh jo lete pehlay
garam hangama e kaaghaz hay yahan
be mehak phool kahaan thay pehlay
sheher e nit poochta hay kon ho tum
log tum se na thay tum se pehlay
aik ik aankh hay parto apna
hum kahan bikhre thay itne pehlay
humne dekhi na thi dil ki kaalak
kitne roshan thay ye chehre pehlay
"Sham" saahab zara miltay jaayn
us taraf jaanay se pehlay pehlay
