Hi, everyone I worked for a CPA firm. One of our partners had this magnificent German Shepard figure in his office. I could not resist writing a line or two about it.

Surprised and amazed beyond embarrassment so meek
that you were discovered after two weeks.
Had I not seen you the first time?
Was too busy to mind?
That you were hidden behind that round table
heaped full of files, books and paper.
That I had not seen your tan and black sable.

The keeper of this office had your spot well chosen.
To the left of his big leather chair you are posing.
Ears completely at attention, rigid and upright
shows all who sees you that you are quite a sight!
Your tan face emphasizes those dark black eyes.
In real life you could tell no lies.

How many nights did you keep him company?
As he sat studying over the numbers and cases.
Deep into the night looking over his glasses?
Did he ever think as I do now, “what if you were real”?
Standing at the office entrance, I glance a moment
to pretend if it is my power to deal.
To create a miracle for even one day,
That you could stay.
Would you greet me head down, tail wagging at this domain door?
Partially protecting, but more to explore?
Would you allow me to enter?
Stepping aside each time showing the center.

Now I know you are there, each time I enter with care.
You are a magnificent German shepherd.
Molding and made to last.
No bark you shall cast.
But your protective presence molded of resin
shows that you are your masters best friend –
The Mascot no matter the season.
